How do I describe myself without sounding pathetic or complaining…
I had cancer surgery. Great, it was removed from my body, no end to my happiness.
But then the side effects of medication – suddenly you don’t know what’s wrong with you, everything is wrong.
This hurts, that hurts. For me the hardest symptom was that I couldn’t sleep. No rest. For days.
In the dark, while everyone else sleeps, the thoughts come: does any of this make sense? At least the cancer didn’t hurt.
That’s when I met Ivana. My dear friend calls her Bela.

I came to her thinking: “it can’t hurt.”
I was welcomed by a pleasant atmosphere, a woman with kind eyes.
I didn’t have to do anything – she looked after me.

A miracle happened.
I fell asleep. I slept peacefully.
Bela didn’t want to wake me, so I took up a lot of her time.
I don’t know what she did, but since then, I sleep.

Thank you is just a word, but I don’t know a more fitting one.

I reached out to Bela because I kept getting worked up and anxious when I had to meet demanding family members I couldn’t avoid.
